When we look for new pieces in the metal art village of Croix des Bouquets, in Haiti, we have a more or less informal taxonomy: the largest category is pieces we won't carry. Then comes pieces that if everything aligns, we decide to carry. A few pieces fit into the I can't live without this but I don't think I can sell it so I'll add to my personal collection. And, the final category are things that I find interesting and aren't really for my home. These are my "gallery" pieces. That is, pieces that really don't make sense for me to sell online, wholesale, or when I'm out peddling wares, but that I would definitely carry if I had a brick and mortar gallery.
For reasons that I'm still examining, this amazing and sort of kitschy piece that's kind of of the Great Seal of the United States, would have a prominent place in my imaginary physical space.
