While we're firmly in the "dog people" camp here at Three Stone Steps, we realize that cat's are not without their charms. For the "cat people" out there, we present to you a fun and slightly elegant cat silhouette rendered in recycled steel oil drum art. This canine fanatic hopes you enjoy!

We have silhouettes on the brain. Once we realized that is what we wanted to have made in recycled steel oil drums, deciding on images became all consuming fun. We now have a series of 6" x 6" recycled Haitian oil drum art.
The four pieces here are inspired by Baltimore, Maryland, home to Three Stone Steps' worldwide headquarters, and Washington, DC is where we regularly sell. We're happy to introduce another new and fabulous piece of recycled Haitian metal oil drum art: a gorgeous, delicate, metal fish with loads of dramatic negative space.
When we look for new pieces in the metal art village of Croix des Bouquets, in Haiti, we have a more or less informal taxonomy: the largest category is pieces we won't carry. Then comes pieces that if everything aligns, we decide to carry. A few pieces fit into the I can't live without this but I don't think I can sell it so I'll add to my personal collection. And, the final category are things that I find interesting and aren't really for my home. These are my "gallery" pieces. That is, pieces that really don't make sense for me to sell online, wholesale, or when I'm out peddling wares, but that I would definitely carry if I had a brick and mortar gallery.
For reasons that I'm still examining, this amazing and sort of kitschy piece that's kind of of the Great Seal of the United States, would have a prominent place in my imaginary physical space. It's Wednesday, it's gray here in Baltimore, and it's been an emotionally exhausting couple of weeks. To add some beauty and levity when we all really need it, I've posted a few of the brand new recycled steel drum metal art pieces that we scored on our trip to Haiti back in early January. More are coming soon, but enjoy these in the meantime. ![]() We're calling this solar eclipse. And, yes, it's our absolute favorite new piece. Seahorses are just wild creatures. We love how textured, almost industrial, the tail is. Staying with the nautical theme, here's a mermaid. You should know, mermaids are subject of metal art, however, I rarely find pieces I like. Happy this one turned up. She's so lovely. Here at Three Stone Steps. we carry a lot of trees. We carry a lot of flowering trees. We also carry a lot of birds in tree, but we just couldn't resist these long-tailed birds on an S-shaped tree.
Would love your thoughts on these pieces and more soon. |
