I'm looking at this compelling piece of recycled oil drum art as I write, since it's on living room wall, right across from me. While I love and would proudly display all our metal art in my home--in fact, that's how I decide to carry. I ask myself: would this be something I could live with--I have a special fondness for this piece. I sit across from it all the time, and often think about its asymmetry and its lattice like work. The piece, in Voudu, is the veve (or religious symbol) of Erzulie Dantor. As with most religions, there are different interpretations of the Erzulie Danto lwa (or spirit). We gravitate to the interpretation of her as a fiercely independent and strong woman, and the goddess of beauty. Of course, your interpretation works, too, as does just appreciating this piece of recycled metal art aesthetically. Find this piece here. ![]()
