We have some leftover Independence Day thoughts, and while Three Stone Steps doesn't offer any USA flags, we do have a recycled oil drum wall hanging of the fantastic flag of Washington, DC.
It has stars and stripes, so the same components as the flags people wave for the holiday. We hope you had a great middle of the week holiday, and hope the upcoming weekend is wonderful, too.
You can find this DC flag metal wall decor right here.
With the Independence Day holiday approaching, some of our thoughts turn to the delightful, delectable Chesapeake Bay blue crab, steamed, of course, with lots of J.O. type seasoning. (Who are we kidding? Our thoughts turn to eating crabs when it's not a holiday!)
In honor of the Maryland State crustacean, we present our oil drum crab. As you may have noticed, it is our only metal wall art that is painted. It needs to be.
Find our metal version of this crab from the Land of Pleasant living here. And, have a happy 4th!
I'm looking at this compelling piece of recycled oil drum art as I write, since it's on living room wall, right across from me. While I love and would proudly display all our metal art in my home--in fact, that's how I decide to carry. I ask myself: would this be something I could live with--I have a special fondness for this piece. I sit across from it all the time, and often think about its asymmetry and its lattice like work.
The piece, in Voudu, is the veve (or religious symbol) of Erzulie Dantor.
As with most religions, there are different interpretations of the Erzulie Danto lwa (or spirit). We gravitate to the interpretation of her as a fiercely independent and strong woman, and the goddess of beauty. Of course, your interpretation works, too, as does just appreciating this piece of recycled metal art aesthetically.

This is one of our very favorite pieces of oil drum art. We've carried it for a few years now. Not only is it graphically interesting, it's open to interpretation: Is it a Medusa-type figure? The Vodou spirit Damballa? A symbol of rebirth? It can be all or something else, or none of those at all. That's one of the reasons this piece is so great.
Should you want this for your wall or for some outdoor décor, you can find it here.
And, if you're a father and you celebrate, an early Happy Father's Day!
Yes, we know that Hanukkah is just a week or two shy of six months away, but this week's recent celebration of the 20th anniversary of Sex in the City, kept reminding me that we have an awesome new recycled Chanukah menorah that has almost the same name. Also, we haven't shown this off before. Appropriate time to show off a menorah be damned!
Here it is.

And, while we still have some time to go until Hanukkah, this great menorah is available now to give as a Jewish wedding gift, or for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah.
